Hello New York!
Arrived at about 6:30am from Vancouver, and got throught immigration and customs without a hitch. After waiting for what seemed like an eternity the shuttle to our hotel finally arrived.
Once we got to the hotel we were dead in the water (not much sleep on the plane) so we ended up having a nap for a couple of hours, after which we decided to have a wander around the streets just getting our bearings. Our hotel is very close to Times Square so that's the first thing we came across - all I can say is WOW! There are lights, shops, electronic billboards everywhere, but most of all the amount of people is what really gets your attention.
We found a bank and got all our Canadian cash converted to USD, and we had also heard about this great photography/computer store called B&H so we decided to go try and find it. It was a fair walk (the streets look small on the map but it's actually quite a distance) but we got there, and we would have to say that B&H is the best photography store in the world. There are heaps of staff, they are friendly and helpful, and all seem to know what they are talking about. They sell anything you can think of when it comes to photography and video (but they also sell pro audio and computer gear too!)
We also found a 3-storey M&M's store which smelled great (we planned on going back later to take some photos so more details about this later) then got some McDonalds and sat in Times Square to do some people watching for an hour or so. What some of you may not know is that the city of New York has started a 'green' program, and part of this is that they have permanently blocked off the streets in Times Square to vehicle traffic - pedestrians only - so there are heaps of people (like us) just sitting around on some provided chairs enjoying the moment and soaking up everything that is Times Square.
